Revisiting the Multidimensional Work Motivation Scale (MWMS)

This multi-sample study (5 samples) revisited the content and factor structure of Multidimensional Work Motivation Scale (MWMS) through exploratory structural equation modelling. Specifically, operational representation of, relations between, types behavioural regulation were investigated as was their relation to theoretical outcomes. Results suggest removal three problematic items show that work motivation, measured by MWMS, is best represented a reflecting autonomous introjected external well amotivation. Furthermore, more strongly its avoidance subscale, whereas two (material social) are not distinguishable. Lastly, motivation linked optimal employee functioning (e.g., vigor/vitality, satisfaction, lower turnover intention). The controlled have differentiated with performance, but both poor health intention, (avoidance) being particularly important predictor. By revisiting MWMS cross-validating in five samples, this provides an empirically adequate Suggestions for future research aimed at improving also offered.
